The Quran as a Guidance

In various verses of the Quran, Allah ﷻ refers to His book as Huda, or a source of guidance.

What is a guide?
A guide is something or someone who “Directs the course; determines the direction of travelling, someone who shows the way by leading or advising.”

If a person intends to traverse an unknown path, the most sensible thing for him to do is find a guide. The Quran is that very guide which directs us through the pathways of this life.

The Qur’an as a Cure

Allah ﷻ tells us in  the Quran:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَاءٌ لِّمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ … يونس : ٥٧

“O Mankind! There has come to you an advice from your Lord and a cure for what is in the hearts and a guidance and mercy for the believers.” (Surah Yunus, Ayah 57)

In the Arabic language the word ‘Shifa’ simply means a remedy, or a cure for an ailment.
Allah Almighty refers to His Glorious Book as a ‘Shifa’.
